Dr. Yamini Kansal is an AIIMS-trained gynecologic cancer surgeon specializing in the comprehensive surgical management of cancers affecting the female reproductive system. She currently serves as Associate Professor at Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences, Dehradun, where she is actively involved in advanced cancer care, academic teaching, and research.
She completed her MS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, followed by Senior Residency at AIIMS. She also obtained DNB (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) as an additional academic qualification.
Dr. Kansal subsequently pursued super-specialty training (M.Ch.) in Gynecologic Oncology from Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru, one of India’s oldest and most renowned dedicated cancer centres.
She further expanded her expertise through an International Fellowship at Huntsman Cancer Institute, Salt Lake City, USA, and received the Medical Excellence Award, Dehradun (2026) for her contributions to cancer care. She has also undergone advanced training in minimally invasive laparoscopic oncologic surgery.
Clinical & Surgical Expertise
Dr. Kansal’s clinical practice covers the full spectrum of gynecologic oncology including complex oncologic surgery, minimally invasive procedures, fertility-preserving treatment, and cancer prevention strategies.
Major Areas of Expertise Include:
- Cytoreductive (debulking) surgery for advanced ovarian cancer
- Radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy and retroperitoneal nodal dissection for cervical cancer
- Advanced minimally invasive oncologic surgery (laparoscopic and robotic)
- Sentinel lymph node mapping for endometrial cancer
- Fertility-preserving surgery in selected early gynecologic cancers
- Radical vulvectomy with inguino-femoral lymph node dissection for vulvar cancer
- Risk-reducing prophylactic surgeries for hereditary cancer risk
- Management of premalignant cervical disease (LEEP, conisation, cryotherapy)
- Colposcopy and colposcopy-guided biopsy
- HPV DNA testing and cervical cancer screening strategies
Multidisciplinary Cancer Care
Dr. Kansal actively participates in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions with specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology to ensure comprehensive and individualized cancer care.
She is also involved in long-term survivorship care focusing on recovery, recurrence monitoring, and improving quality of life after cancer treatment.
Academic & Research Contributions
Dr. Kansal is actively involved in postgraduate teaching, surgical training, and clinical research. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications and frequently participates as faculty and speaker at national and international conferences in gynecologic oncology.
She also organizes cancer awareness and screening initiatives and regularly conducts webinars, CMEs, and educational programs aimed at improving early diagnosis and prevention of gynecologic cancers.
